The parasitic Bombus (Psithyrus) fernaldae is a boreal and western/Rocky Mountain species that is more abundant in the west. It occurs across the northern states of the Midwest. Records of the socially parasitic subgenus Psithyrus are rare, so it is possible that B. fernaldae may be found in South Dakota, northern Iowa, and far northern Illinois and Indiana. |
