2005 Student Science Poster Competition Winners

Students from a broad range of scientific disciplines entered the
Science Poster Competition in hopes of winning a cash prize of $200.00.
The 2005 Poster competition was sponsored by Pierce Biotechnology, Inc,
Kimberly-Clark Company and the Biotechnology Center Placement Office.
The judging took place at the Biotechnology Job Fair on November 3,
2005. Dr. Jo Ann Cameron, Dr. James Imlay, Dr. Peter Orlean and Dr. Art
Zangerl evaluated the graduate students while Dr. Mark Band, Liping
Wang, Dr. Scott Silverman, and Dr. Hung-Chang Yao reviewed the
undergraduate posters. Four finalists were each selected from the
undergraduate and graduate category. Posters were evaluated for visual
presentation, experimental design, and relevance. Representatives from
Kimberly-Clark and Pierce Biotechnology presented the awards to the
finalists at the Biotech Job Fair luncheon attended by company
recruiters. The finalists were awarded $25.00 gift certificates and the
winners received a check for $200.00.

Undergraduate Winner: Peter Zavislak
Poster title: “Analysis of human neuronal disease homologues in
Schmidtea mediterranea by in situ hybridization and RNAi”

Graduate Winner: Karuppiah Chockalingam
Poster title: “ Systematic approaches to the protein engineering of highly specific receptor-ligand pairs”
